DUNDALK JULY 4th PARADE

July 3, 2013
DUNDALK JULY 4th PARADE: I will be joining Fan Man and the Bus Boys in the Dundalk Parade again this year. It was a great time last year and will probably be a good (and hot) one again.

ROSTER

June 24, 2013
ROSTER: Training Camp is about a month away, so we still have some down-time. At this point we have to dig for little points of interest to make the time go by.

My focus in Training Camp has always been the back end of the roster; those Special Team guys, those young players who will be the "Inactives" during the season but who are one step away from filling a void due to an injury. The pre-season games give us a chance to see guys that we will not see too much during the season.

 Right now, I...

LEADERSHIP

June 13, 2013
LEADERSHIP: One of the big talking points this off-season is that the team has lost leadership that needs to be replaced. The talk centers around who will step up to fill the holes created by Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Matt Birk and Anquan Boldin leaving. The discussion presumes that the Baltimore Ravens need a centerpiece or two to pull the team, and there is a search for that person who can step up and make it happen.

I have my own opinion about all of these developments, and am comfortable that t...

SALARY CAP INFORMATION

June 5, 2013
SALARY CAP INFORMATION: Here is a present snapshot of the salary breakdown of the roster. Although the top 51 may change it is unlikely that it will impact the numbers significantly. The "Dead Money" though is a big deal. Lewis, Cundiff, Boldin and Birk are a hit, but at least they are only weights for a year. Suggs and Ngata are shockers as active players - 24.5 million for two players. This is a fascinating part of the whole NFL picture.

RAVENS FANS IN OCEAN CITY

June 4, 2013
RAVENS FANS IN OCEAN CITY: The end of a work week. I will be packing up to head to Ocean City for the collection of Ravens Fans at the Ravens Roost Convention, the gathering of the Nests and the Ravens Beach Bash. I plan to be participating in the Parade with Ravens Roost # 115 tomorrow (in the hot weather at the beach); so I leave at dawn.

Looking forward to having a good time with the Black and Purple Celebration of the Super Bowl winners.

TWO MONTHS TO TRAINING CAMP

June 4, 2013
TWO MONTHS TO TRAINING CAMP: As I pace waiting for the first hurdle to football for the 2013 Season:

1. Opening Night: So the NFL did not want to move the Opening Night due a bogus religious night excuse in a small market and decide to put it in a city with the QB that the National Media slobbers about? And they could not work out a deal with MLB or get the city to sign off on two professional games in the same day because of the logistical nightmare involved? So instead, there is word that t...

OPENING GAME, 2013

March 27, 2013
OPENING GAME, 2013: For the first time since 2003 the Super Bowl Champions will be opening the season on the road. The fact that it is Baltimore is not a surprise to me. I despised the NFL in the Expansion Debacle and can honestly say that I snarl at them after this move.
First, people have been dumping on the Orioles for depriving the fans of the ability to celebrate the Super Bowl champions. There are too many moving parts in rescheduling a baseball game to single out the home team, but I d...

THE CITY THAT CAN'T REEEEEDDDD

March 25, 2013
THE CITY THAT CAN'T REEEEEDDDD: Except when the Texans come to town. Ed Reed has accepted the Texans' deal and will not be a career-Raven. He has taken his two tickets to Houston and will help their defense with the talents that he has left.
It is a sad time, since Ed was a game-changer at times. Of course, he also was a free-lancer that left CB's exposed. And he left us at times saying "that is Ed being Ed". He has talent in the tank, but the Ravens have chosen to go in a different direction...

GUTTING THE DEFENSE

March 17, 2013
GUTTING THE DEFENSE: With the players that have moved on, people see the team as being vulnerable. The National Talking-Heads are calling the changes a major hit to the SB team and local airwaves are filled with references to a "rebuilding year" and a 3-13 year. The theory is that a team that wins the SB should not make changes to the degree that have hit the Ravens and expect to "repeat". The influx of youth will have the team step back and there are those who are threatening to dump their P...

WIPING THE SLATE CLEAN

March 15, 2013
WIPING THE SLATE CLEAN: The last few days have seen a major change in the Baltimore Ravens - and not just in the roster moves. This appears to be a change in the deeper character of the team. The changes are not just related to age/cap space/market values. IMHO this is the bigger change to a true TEAM identity - and a shift to an team with a focus on offense for now.
 1. Boldin: Right now he is the only offensive change; although McKinnie is probably the next one and Leach can still be a cap c...
