The February meeting of Ravens Roost 115 was held on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012, at Maggie’s Restaurant.  The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:30 by Sergeant at Arms, George Colburn.  George led the Roost in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a “Go Ravens”.   A roll call of Officers and Board Members was conducted.  Present were Officers:  President, Scott Albright, Vice President, Chris Frantz, Secretary, Lori Blake, Sergeant at Arms, George Colburn.  Board of Directors, present were Dawn Geigan, Chad Tracey, Raul Eusantos, Steve Rutzebeck and Tony DeLeonardo.  Missing was Treasurer, Tina Thomas.

Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurer, Tina Thomas was able to attend.  Treasurers report to follow.

President’s Report:

Scott Albright attended the Baltimore Council meeting on February 17th.  He reported that the Council was pleased with the participation in The Polar Bear Plunge and over 100,000 people attended.  He reported that 980 people attended the Bull Roast this year and approximately $25,000 was raised.  The Council was very pleased that our Roost had 40 people attend.  We were the 3rd highest Roost in attendance. Planning is underway for the Ocean City Convention to be held in Ocean City from May 31st through June 3rd. We need to get a committee together to handle all the details as it is a lot to coordinate.  We want to have a good presence this year.  The theme will be “Purple and Black Attack”.  Rooms are available at the Days Inn Boardwalk for a reduced rate.  We are partnering with Roost 50 this year and members may call 1-800-926-1122 and tell them you are with Roost 50 (because that is how the rooms are blocked) in order to get the discounted group rates.  The Convention Registration forms are now on our website.  Coming soon will be a “Convention 2012” tab with additional info and videos from prior years.  It’s a great time so plan to attend.

Committee Reports:

Charity Committee -

Sarah Hund presented information on the 4th annual “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event which will take place on Saturday, April 14th at 10 a.m. in Westminster.  Men literally walk one mile in women's high heeled shoes to protest sexualized violence, educate their communities and raise money for chronically underfunded rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and other sexualized violence prevention and recovery services.  You will see McDaniel students, football players, guys of all ages walking through downtown Westminster in their heels.  98 Rock is a sponsor this year which is great because they will help raise awareness for the Rape Crisis Center.  We have started a Team for the Roost which includes 5 pairs of shoes if the Team raises $500 by March 2.  That is ONE WEEK AWAY.  TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!  Be sure to register now. Each person who wants shoes must raise $75. If you don't want shoes its $25 just to walk.

We currently have 3 registered walkers and $350 donated.   Steve Hock will be walking with his son.  Dawn’s son will be walking and Mark Pickett will be walking too.  Mark has come up with a very creative way to generate donations to the cause.  He will have his own shoes….check them out!  Here is our team page:  https://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/ravensroost-115/4th-annual-walk-a-mile-in-her-shoes/team

We are looking for ALL Roost members to get involved.  Bring your sons to walk with you.  Let’s have some fun for a great cause.  Ladies may also walk in this event or participate in other ways.  Click this link to Register to be on the Team:  http://www.walkamilecc.org/

Dawn has volunteered to assist anyone with the Registration process.  Email her if you would like her to set up your donation page.  She will then send you the link to your page with a password which you may change once you sign in.

Tony DeLeonardo is heading up the Roost’s participation in the event.  Sarah Hund-Brown works for the Rape Crisis Center and has organized this event for its 4th year.  If you have any questions or ideas on how we may help them, please contact them directly.

Bobbi Koppenhaver presented information on the Carroll County Cannons Football sponsorship opportunity.  It is a local team and gets great attendance.  We will get announcements at each game and good Roost coverage.  A motion was made by Bonni Klein and seconded by Chris Frantz for the Roost to sponsor the team in the amount of $250.  This will give us 4 tickets to each game and allow us to hand out Roost information.  We will also try to display our banner at the games if possible.

Entertainment/Events –

Steve Rutzebeck is heading up a March Madness For Charity Pool.  The teams that will fill out the 68-team bracket will be selected on March 11th.  You have the opportunity to have one of those 68 teams playing for you.  For a $10.00 donation you will own one of the 68 slots in our charity pool (players can purchase multiple slots).  On March 12th individual tournament teams will be assigned to those 68 slot owners in a random drawing and players teams will be posted.  Then cheer your team on to victory.  Play outs are as follows:  The four “Play in Winners” - $10.00 each; Teams making the Elite 8 - $10.00 each; Teams making the Final 4 - $20.00; The Championship Runner up team - $30.00 and the Championship team - $120.00.  There is also a 50/50 pool to guess the number of points that will be scored during the April 2nd NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship game.  This is a $5.00 donation per guess.  Proceeds will benefit the Roost for our charity donations. 29 slots were sold at the meeting.  There are 39 slots left. Contact Steve Rutzebeck at srutzebeck@msn.com for more information.  Let’s fill the pool!

Golf Outing

Bonni Klein reported on our upcoming second annual Ravens Roost 115 Golf Outing which will take place on Friday, May 18th at the Links At Gettysburg with a 2:00 p.m. shot gun start.  Pricing will be $90 per person or $360 a foursome before May 1st and $95 per person or $380 a foursome after May 1st.  This includes golf, dinner and beer and a chance to win various prices.  This is our biggest fundraiser and last year we raised over $5,000. We need help with getting hole sponsors.  Hole sponsors are $100 and each sponsor will have signage.  We also need silent auction donations.  Bonni passed around a sign up sheet for committees.  They are as follows.    Donation Solicitation:    Dawn Geigan;  Beer, Beverage & Snacks:  Chad Tracey and Chris Frantz;  Volunteers:   Kim Harris

We still need someone to help with the silent auction process.  If you are interested, email Bonni at bklein@thelinksatgettysburg.com.

Crab Feast

We have set the date for our summer crab feast. It will be held on Saturday, August 11th from 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. at the Westminster VFW.  We have secured Harris Seafood to handle the steamed crabs and corn on sight. Thanks to Greg Linard for helping us to secure the VFW and the details. Chris Frantz and Raul Eusantos will be heading up the crab feast and will be looking for assistance.  More information to come, but we want to sell this out and have 250 people in attendance. The VFW will help us to advertise and sell tickets!  Mark your calendars now and spread the word.  More information to come.
