Scott has been asked to sit on the Council charity committee and has agreed to do so. The Council had elections and elected a new President, Charlotte who has been very active in the convention and other Council activities. The Polar Bear Plunge date has been set for January 26, 2013 mark your calendars, more to come. The date of the Council bull roast is February 16th so mark your calendars for both events. We had a blast at both this year. Several new Roosts were up for approval. There was approval on 2 new bylaw changes which both were minor. The Council again noted that Bill West of AM radio 1370 on Saturday mornings is willing to promote all Roost events. We will remember this for our future events.
Treasurer’s Report:
Kim gave a Treasurer’s report. We currently have $11,830 in the bank. We plan to make a charity donation from some of the crab feast proceeds.
Committee Reports:
Scott mentioned that we are looking to revamp our committee structure to make things more effective. We will have 3 main committees – Events Committee, Charity Committee and Membership Committee. We will be looking for members to help with these committees so more information to come.
Charity Committee:
The Roost is sponsoring the upcoming Tevis Breast Cancer ride on September 22nd. The ride will leave from the Tevis office on Main Street and make several stops along the way, ending up at Gunners Grill in Taneytown for dinner. If you want to attend the dinner at Gunners, the cost is $20. If you want to participate in the ride the cost is $30. If you need more information, contact Judi or check out the event on Facebook.
Dawn is once again participating in the Team Purple walk on October 14th downtown. She is looking for people to join her in the walk or to sponsor her. A link is on the Roost website to donate or join the team. Contact Dawn for more information.
Tina is selling Football Mania tickets at $20 a piece to benefit her daughter’s soccer team. There are payouts each week of football season with a nice grand price at the end. Contact Tina if you are interested.
We heard a little about an organization called “Live, Love, Laugh”. The young lady who runs it was not able to attend our meeting, but she is a Westminster High School student who raises funds for juvenile diabetes and the Ronald McDonald House. She makes Ravens barrettes and sells them for $6.00 each. More information will be available on the website.
Entertainment/Events –
The Roost is organizing a bus trip to the Orioles game on Friday, September 28th. They play Boston. The bus will leave Westminster and the Roost will pay for the bus, beer and snacks on the bus. Tickets for the game are $20 each. There will be an on-line option to purchase tickets, but we need a count soon in order to purchase tickets. This is for Roost members only, however a Roost member may bring a guest. Contact Mike McGinnis for more information or check out the website.
Jim and Bobbi Koppenhaver have graciously agreed to host a Pig Roast on September 15th at their house and have invited all Roost members. The Roost will be the main sponsor and will help provide food. Anyone attending is being asked to bring a side dish or make a donation to help with planning. An evite has been sent out so please RSVP so that Jim and Bobbi can plan accordingly.
Picnic Table Raffle - We made about $837 dollars in profit from our picnic table raffle. This was pure profit to the Roost since the picnic table was no cost to us.
Crab Feast
We had a very successful crab feast on August 11th. Thanks to all those who helped pull it off. We sold out the event and had a waiting list. The crab feast committee met before the meeting to discuss what went well and things that could be improved upon for next year’s event. We plan to do another one again on August 10th next year at the VFW again so mark your calendars now. We will sell out again so plan to get your tickets early! Our proceeds from the crab feast were approximately $2,213. We were very please for our first one.
Membership
Renewals for July dues were sent out and due renewals for September will be emailed. The membership committee has worked hard to get everyone on the same renewal date by prorating dues each month. Dues are $3 per month or $36 per year. Make sure to renew your dues. More to come from the membership committee.

If you are nominated for a position and not interested in accepting it, that is acceptable. Please be sure to attend September’s meeting to cast your vote!
